Schank Roofing Scottsbluff, NE

Siding · Nebraska Panhandle

Hail does not stop politely at the roofline.

Siding repair and replacement by the crew already on the roof. When a storm hits the shingles it usually hits the north and west walls too, and most people only find out later.

The part people miss

Hail damage to siding is a separate thing

A roof claim and a siding claim are not automatically the same claim, and siding damage is easy to miss from the ground because it reads as ordinary weathering until you are close to it.

What hail does to vinyl
Cracks and punctures, usually on the storm-facing walls, often behind or below windows where the panel is already stressed. The cracks are thin and they hide in the shadow line of each course, which is why a walk-around with a camera finds things a glance from the driveway does not.
What hail does to steel and aluminium
Dents rather than cracks, and they show up worst in low sun. A dented panel is usually still watertight, so whether it is worth replacing is a question about appearance and about your policy, not about whether the wall is failing tomorrow.
What it does to trim and soffit
Trim, fascia and soffit take the same hits and are cheaper to put right, but they are also where water gets behind the wall if they are left. These get documented on every storm inspection whether or not you asked about the siding.
Wind, which is the other half of it
Panhandle wind lifts and unclips siding courses, particularly on exposed gable ends. A lifted course looks fine from the street and is open behind, so it is worth having checked after any storm that took shingles off.

Roofing. Siding. Gutters.

Doing it in one visit is the whole point

The exterior is one system, and splitting it across three contractors is how a house ends up with three warranties and nobody responsible.

One inspection covers all of it

The Roof Confidence visit walks the walls and the trim as well as the roof. Siding findings land in the same report, graded Good, Watch or Fix Now, so you see the whole exterior in one document.

One schedule, one crew

Roof, siding, trim and gutters handled together rather than three separate weeks of disruption. The Powell and Reznor jobs on the projects page were both whole-exterior turnarounds done this way.

One company to come back

Family-owned in Scottsbluff since 2004, Nebraska registration 30526-25. When your roofer is local the warranty has an address.

Siding questions

What homeowners ask about siding

How do I know if my siding has hail damage?
Look at the storm-facing walls in low, angled sunlight. Vinyl shows thin cracks and punctures that hide in the shadow of each course; steel and aluminium show dents. If you are not sure, the inspection covers the walls as well as the roof and costs you nothing.
Can siding be repaired, or does it all have to go?
Individual panels can often be replaced, and when the siding is recent and the colour still matches that is the cheaper answer. Older siding fades, so a patch can stand out. We will show you the photographs and let you decide which trade-off you would rather make.
Is siding damage covered by insurance?
It can be, and it is assessed on its own rather than automatically riding along with a roof claim. Only your insurer decides. What we do is document the walls thoroughly at the same time as the roof, so nothing goes unrecorded.
Do you do siding without the roof?
Yes. Plenty of jobs are siding only. The reason we ask about the roof is that it is usually the same storm and the same crew, not because one is conditional on the other.
What siding do you install?
Vinyl, steel and fiber cement are all common on Panhandle homes, and which one suits depends on exposure, budget and what is already there. We will talk through the trade-offs on site rather than pushing one product before we have seen the house.
How long does a siding job take?
Most single-family homes are a matter of days rather than weeks, and it depends far more on the cut-up of the walls than on the square footage. You get a schedule before anyone starts.
